Joseph Gordon Levitt has revealed that he has always wanted to direct a movie and he has been inspired by the work of Christopher Nolan.
The actor teams up with Nolan once again this summer for The Dark Knight Rises, the pair worked together a couple of years ago on the critical and box office smash Inception.
And Levitt likes the 'individual voice' that Nolan has as a filmmaker and he would like that freedom himself if he steps behind the camera.
Speaking to The Times the actor said: "To be honest, I always wanted to direct a movie; it's something I've been working towards for a long time.
"I love being an actor, but I also have stories I want to tell, and I'm not going to wait for somebody to hire me to do it."
"[Former indie director Nolan] brings that same independence to these huge movies. Nobody at Warner Bros is telling Chris what to do.
"That's the indie thing... it's got an individual voice, of an artist who's got something to say."
And while Levitt may have dreams of moving behind the camera he has a busy few months in front of it and that all kicks off with the latest Batman movie.
He is set to play John Blake in the movie before he moves on to Premium Rush and sci-fi film Looper with Bruce Willis.
The Dark Knight Rises is released 20th July
