Jonah Hill has revealed that he was keen for 21 Jump Street not just to be another TV show made into a movie.

The Oscar nominated actor is back on the big screen this week as he teams up with Channing Tatum for the comedy movie.

But the actor reveals that the film quickly nips in the bud the audiences' preconceptions of what this movie is going to be like.

Speaking to The Reel Bits the actor said: "We make [a] joke in the movie three minutes into the film, saying like, 'Hey, we get what you're thinking', and we're going to call it out before you can and show you that it's a way better movie than you think you're about to see," he revealed.

"For us, it was just about... if you could go back and relive the most important period of your youth thinking you have all the answers and getting back there... and you think you have it wrong, that's a cool idea for a film. That's kind of the reason why I did it."

It's been a hugely successful twelve months for the actor as Moneyball saw him pick up his first Oscar nomination, for Best Supporting Actor.

But 21 Jump Street seems him return to his comedy roots, he is also set to follow that up this summer with Neighbourhood Watch.

21 Jump Street is released 16th March
