Jon Favreau believes that the success of his new movie Iron Man 2 could impact on other Marvel movies in the pipeline.

Favreau is back in the director's chair for the latest instalment in the Iron Man franchise, released later this month, which sees Robert Downey Jr return as the central character Tony Stark.

Speaking to Contactmusic the filmmaker said: "If I don't do a good job with this one it jeopardises all future films in the collective Marvel universe.

"Iron Man was the first film to establish the tone of the world. Since Marvel have committed to make the universe, 'Iron Man 2' does have a ripple effect into the other movies."

And the director has brought together an impressive cast for the movie as Gwyneth Paltrow also returns to her role as Pepper Potts.

Also on the cast list is Mickey Rourke, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson and Sam Rockwell, Don Cheadle also takes over the role as Rhodes.

However there are a string of Marvel projects in the pipeline including Spider Man 4, which will be a re-boot to the franchise, and Captain America, which is currently in the middle of casting.

Thor is currently being directed by Kenneth Branagh and an Avangers movies has been talked about for some time.

Iron Man 2 is released 30th April.
