Johnny Depp has revealed that he wants a simpler plotline for Pirates of the Caribbean 4.
The actor is set to return to the character of Captain Jack Sparrow for a fourth instalment of the hit franchise.
In an interview with the Daily Mirror the actor said: "Sometimes people didn't know what was going on and most of the time I didn't either.
"I'd like to give them a Pirates 4 that is very funny and entertaining and not convoluted or riddled with sub-plots and characters."
"Captain Jack did a big flip for my career. When I decided to take the role it was pure instinct. I didn't know it was going to be such a huge hit.
"I like the idea of experimenting with all different sorts of genre. Being comfortable with what you're doing is not good because you get lazy."
Penelope Cruz is rumoured to be in talks to appear in the movies and Geoffrey Rush has also been linked with the film, reprising the role as Barbosa.
But before that Depp is back on the big screen next week as the Mad Hatter in another collaboration with Tim Burton in Alice In Wonderland.
