Johnny Depp has admitted that he loved taking on the role of the Mad Hatter in Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland.
The movie once again teams Depp with filmmaker Tim Burton, for the first time since Sweeney Todd back in 2007.
In an interview with Contactmusic the actor said: "I started reading the books and understanding the character and the significance of the letter M.
"There's a moment when he says, 'I'm investigating things that begin with the letter M'.
"That was huge for me. Hatters were referred to as mad because of the mercury they used to use in the glue. Mercury was the M. I found that fascinating."
The movie follows a 19-year-old Alice who returns to the magical world from her childhood adventure, where she reunites with her old friends and learns of her true destiny: to end the Red Queen's reign of terror.
Burton has put together an impressive cast of Anne Hathaway, Helen Bonham Carter, Christopher Lee and Michael Sheen.
Newcomer Mia Wasikowska takes on the central character of Alice.
