Johnny Depp

Johnny Depp greeted thousands of screaming fans in Leicester Square last night for the premiere of his new movie Public Enemies.

The actor returns to the big screen for the first time since the release of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street as American hero John Dillinger.

Depp stayed on the red carpet for over an hour to spend time with the thousands that had queued all day to catch a glimpse of him.

But it was his co-star Marion Cotillard that was grabbing everyone's attention as she shone in a red dress. She takes on the role of Dillinger's lover Billie Frenchette.

Depp looked every inch the star in a black suit and shades and he told MTV: "I like him playing this kind of a character, a tough guy, a real man. So maybe it was only Johnny and another man who I won't name, but if they didn't do it, I don't think I would've done the movie."

The popular actor also took time out to pay his respects to Michael Jackson: "Obviously hearing about the sad passing of Michael Jackson, for all of us, is very very tragic.

"Some children lost a father, some parents lost a child, some brothers and sisters lost a sibling and that's obviously very sad."
