John Scheinfeld is to direct a new film about Elvis Presley's life based on the memoirs penned by The King's former bodyguard Sonny West.
Scheinfeld will also rewrite the screenplay for the adaptation of the 2007 book Elvis: Still Taking Care of Business, which is tentatively titled Fame & Fortune.
The director will be casting an unknown as Elvis later this year (11).
The film will be released next August (12) to coincide with the 35th anniversary of Presley's death.
It's the first time a film about Elvis has hit the big screen - Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Dale Midkiff and Kurt Russell (1979) have portrayed The King in TV movies.
Scheinfeld co-directed, produced and wrote The U.S. vs. John Lennon and directed and wrote Who Is Harry Nilsson (And Why Is Everybody Talkin' About Him)?
