John Carter has toppled The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel from the top of the U.K. box office.
It was a close battle between the pair but the new Disney movie took £1.9 million to just edge the comedy.
John Carter had to settle for second spot in the U.S., failing to end The Lorax's #1 run .
The movie bring the Edgar Rice Burroughs' 100 year old story to the big screen while director Andrew Stanton made his first live action movie.
The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel slipped to number three in it's third week on the chart while The Woman In Black was also down a single place at three.
This Means War continued to perform well at the box office as it took a further £1m in it's second week on release to finish at number four.
The top five was rounded off by action movie Safe House as it dropped just a single place from last week's number three.
The Muppets fell out of the top ten at six while Project X was also down one at seven.
The Raven was a new entry at number eight while Robert Pattinson's box office power was not enough to see Bel Ami enter the chart higher than number nine.
