John C. Reilly has admitted that horror movie Halloween scared him 'witless' as a child.
The actor was taken to see the film by his mother, who had not idea of it's violent content when he was just twelve.
In an interview with BangShowbiz the actor said: "I was 12 years old and my mum decided, on Halloween, to take me to see Halloween, one of the most horrific stabbing movies of our time.
"My mum had no idea, so she took me and my 9-year-old brother to see the movie and we had never seen anything like it. We were literally scared witless."
"I asked my mum, 'What were you thinking when the guy in the white mask was stabbing people? Did you ever think maybe we should just leave?'"
"We were walking out of that movie theatre and I'll never forget we were so sensitised to everything. We were walking and heard a twig snap and we [were] thinking a man in a white mask would jump out."
But the actor returns to the big screen this week with vampire movie Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant.
After a string of delays surrounding the movie it's finally here and sees the funnyman take on the role of Larten Crepsley, a vampire at a travelling freak show.
Cirque Du Freak is released 23rd October.
