Jodie Foster has called Mel Gibson a 'natural' choice for her new movie The Beaver.
Foster is back behind the camera for the first time since Home For The Holidays back in 1995 as she teams up with her Maverick co-star.
Gibson has faced trouble in his personal life over the last twelve months but is back on the big screen as a man who uses a hand puppet as the only means of communication
Speaking to MSN Movies the Oscar winner said: "Walter Black and the beaver had to be somebody who could fully understand and communicate comedy and tragedy at the same time.
"I've been friends with Mel for over 15 years and we've had many, many long discussions about life and so it was a natural place to go."
Foster also stars in the movie alongside Gibson in her first big screen outing since Nim's Island.
She has already completed work on Carnage and is set to star in Elysium with Matt Damon.
The Beaver is released 17th June.
