Jim Sheridan has called British actor Daniel Day Lewis 'the greatest actor in the world.'
Sheridan is back in the director's chair this week with his new picture Brothers, which brings together Jake Gyllenhaal and Tobey Maguire.
and Sheridan knows Day Lewis well helming the movies My Left Foot, In The Name Of The Father and The Boxer.
For My Left Foot Day Lewis went on to win his first Best Actor Academy Award.
Speaking to Digital Spy the filmmaker said: "We never really had conflicts. I trust him and the alchemy between people is not something that is rational.
"We just had a great rapport and I loved him. I think he's a poet and probably is one of the greatest - I don't want to say Daniel's the greatest actor in the world - he's my mate but if you said it to me I wouldn't disagree."
Sheridan also revealed that he would like to work with Day Lewis again in the future.
