Jim Carrey has revealed that he was advised against taking on the role of conman Steven Russell in his new movie I Love You Phillip Morris.
The actor stars alongside Ewan McGregor as Russell who falls in love with fellow prison inmate Phillip Morris.
In an interview with Metro the actor said: "I went to them, 'Well, why else do we live? Except to do something that people haven't seen before in a film and to push the boundary a little bit? So when it snaps back it doesn't snap back quite so far'.
The actor also revealed that he wasn't concerned about the reaction that the movie receives he just wanted to take on a new and different project.
"I don't really care about the reaction, if there's a negative reaction. I care about doing a story about amazing, fascinating people.
"It's a true story about love, and someone's relentlessness to find it and keep it."
I Love You Phillip Morris is released 17th March.
