Jim Broadbent has revealed that he would chose much safer roles than the ones his agent suggests.
The British actor is back on the big screen this week playing Denis Thatcher alongside Meryl Streep in The Iron Lady.
And Broadbent admits that it is not a role that he would have chosen - he would have missed out on some of his most famous roles if he had been choosing the projects to work on.
Speaking to PA the actor said: "Other people have a much better idea of what I might do than I.
"I come out with more predictable notions, but other people somehow have a broader frame of reference, which is more exciting really.
"It would never have occurred to me that I might play Denis Thatcher, Lord Longford [in 2006's Longford] or Harold Zidler or any number of the roles I've done."
The Iron Lady is already being called the 'movie event of 2012' and Streep is odds on favourite to scoop a Best Actress Oscar for her central performance.
Broadbent has just finished work on Cloud Atlas, in which he will star alongside Tom Hanks and Halle Berry.
The Iron Lady is released 6th January.
