Jeffrey Dean Morgan reveals that he likes taking on 'gray' characters.
The actor is back on the big screen next month with his new movie The Losers, which sees him team up with Zoe Saldana, Chris Evans and Idris Elba.
The movie, which is based on a graphic novel, is directed by Sylvain White and follows a CIA black ops team who are betrayed and left for dead. But they root those who targeted them for assassination.
Speaking to IESB he said: "I like those gray characters. As an actor, it gives you some room to play and add some different layers. Clay, at first glance, is a military guy who's a very straight shooter.
"You dig a little deeper and you learn that this group of guys that he leads are his family. He's got nothing else. His main goal is to make sure that they get home safely.
"The problem with Clay is that he screws up. He's a flawed character, which is the most fun to dig into, for me.
"He's got some crazy taste in women, for instance. He likes his women volatile. There's a scene where Roque says, "You keep getting us in trouble with these women," and I'm like, "Oh, this one's not going to get under my skin."
"But, obviously, this is a trend that Clay falls into. He gets himself in trouble with some women. In this movie, when he loses his rank as Colonel, that's a lot of his identity and he goes into a little bit of a tailspin. That was fun to play.
The Losers is the first movie for Morgan since Taking Woodstock last year. He also has Shanghai, The Resident and Red Dawn in the pipeline.
The Losers is released 28th May
