Jay Baruchel has heaped praise on his co-star Nicolas Cage.

The pair worked together on new movie The Sorcerer's Apprentice, based on the Mickey Mouse segment of Fantasia, and the young actor called Cage a 'super professional'.

Speaking to about.com Baruchel said: "Nicolas is such a generous, caring actor. Such a lovely compassionate man.

"Super professional, always on time. And we're just kind of kindred spirits. We're both oddballs that march to the beat of our own drum, so I enjoyed working with him and chillin' with him equally."

The movie, which also stars Monica Bellucci, Alfred Molina and Toby Kebbell, follows Balthazar Blake, who  is a master sorcerer in modern-day Manhattan trying to defend the city from his arch-nemesis, Maxim Horvath.

Balthazar can't do it alone, so he recruits Dave Stutler, a seemingly average guy who demonstrates hidden potential, as his reluctant protege.

And Baruchel revealed that he enjoyed working on the movie because it reminded him of movies he used to watch as a child.

"I love this one just because this is the kind of movie I grew up loving, you know? To me, it's so got so much different. It's got 'Indiana Jones' and it's got 'Excalibur' in it.

"I mean, it's got so much fun stuff in it. It was just your quintessential big, epic, family summer movie with crazy special effects and stunts and set pieces, and an epic story between good and evil. And it's just like I'm a sucker for this stuff."

The Sorcerer's Apprentice is released 13th August.
