Jared Harris has admitted that he can't speak highly enough of Robert Downey Jr after working with him on Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.

Harris joins the franchise as Holmes' nemesis Professor Moriarty in a movie that sees Guy Ritchie return to the director's chair.

Downey Jr is also back as Holmes, a role that he won a Golden Globe for two years ago, while Jude Law reprises the role of Watson.

And Harris reveals that he loved working alongside Downey Jr on the movie.

Speaking to MTV News the actor said: "Robert, yes. I loved him in the first movie, and I have even more respect for him now.

"I found him to be very generous and attentive. He wants people around him to do their best work. Sometimes you run into these things where people aren't like that, maybe they're insecure.

"He's not insecure about talent at all. He wants other people to raise their game. I loved it. I really enjoyed working with him.

"I can't say enough highly about him. I think he's very special.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows will be the first time that we will have seen Harris on the big screen since The Ward after moving into TV to appear in Mad Men.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows is released 16th December.
