Jamie Bell is being tipped for the role of Spider Man in a re-boot of the franchise.
Director Sam Raimi and leading man Tobey Maguire were all set to return for a fourth picture when the pair quit the project last year.
Sony announced that they would begin the franchise from scratch, much like James Bond and Batman, and were looking to focus on the teenage years of Peter Parker.
Many names have been linked to the central role including Logan Lerman from Percy Jackson and Lightning Thief and Robert Pattinson.
But it's Brit actor Bell who seems to be leading the pack, although Alden Ehrenreich, Frank Dillane, Josh Hutcherson and Andrew Garfield are also being considered.
The actor was last seen in war movie Defiance back in 2008 but has a busy year ahead of him. He has already shot The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn, in which he plays Tintin, with Steven Spielberg which is due out next year.
The Eagle of the Ninth and Jane Eyre are also in the pipeline.
