British actors Jamie Bell, Aaron Johnson and Andrew Garfield are amongst the names on the shortlist to play Spiderman.
The popular franchise is being re-booted after actor Tobey Maguire, who has played Peter Parker for the three movies, and director Sam Raimi quit a fourth movie last year.
There has been much speculation and rumour as to who was in line to take on the role of Parker, Bell being the most recent favourite but now Columbia Picture now have allegedly revealed the actor they are looking at.
Bell has already had a busy 2010 with The Adventures of Tin Tin: The Secret of the Unicorn, Jane Eyre and The Eagle of the Ninth already under his belt.
Johnson has enjoyed a very successful twelve months with Nowhere Boy and Kick Ass doing well critically and at the box office while Garfield has moved between TV and film with Red Riding and The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. He returns to the big screen later this year with Never Let Me Go, in which he stars alongside Keira Knightley and Carey Mulligan.
Other names on the list include Anton Yelchin, who already has two blockbusters under his belt in the form of Star Trek and Terminator Salvation, and Logan Lerman from Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, who was an early favourite for the role.
Michael Angarano from The Forbidden Kingdom fame and Tetro actor Alden Ahrenreich are also being considered. it's believed that Harry Potter actor Frank Dillane has already turned the part down.
Despite not yet having a cast the new Spiderman movie is expected to be released in the summer of 2012.
