James McAvoy has likened the relationship between Charles and Erik in X-Men: First Class to a love story.
The actor is back on the big screen this summer with the latest instalment in the X-Men saga, which looks back to the early years of Professor X and Magneto.
McAvoy takes on the role of Charles Xavier in Matthew Vaughn's movie while Michael Fassbender takes on the role of Erik
Speaking to the Los Angeles Times the actor said: "This is the first time in their lives [that] they've met someone who is an equal of sorts, someone who understands them and can connect and push them too.
"Charles [is] fascinated with Erik (Magneto) and his potential. For Erik, Charles is the first person he's trusted to really tell about his past and the first person to understand the horrible things he's been through."
McAvoy and Fassbender lead an all star cast of Jennifer Lawrence, January Jones, Kevin Bacon and Rose Bryne.
X-Men: First Class is released 2nd June.
