James Mangold has revealed he would have preferred Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz not to do their own stunts whilst filming Knight & Day.
The Walk The Line director is back behind the camera next month for the action movie that sees Cruise reunite with Diaz and the filmmaker admits that the pair were keen to get their hands dirty.
Speaking at the premiere for the movie he told Bang Showbiz: "I couldn't discourage them from doing any of their own stunts.
"I would have been happier if they hadn't done some of them, but they just love getting in there physically and representing their characters in that way.
"Hell yes, I was worried but they were both incredibly prepared for it and focused on safety. That's the great thing about Cameron and Tom - people have been wanting to see them in these sorts of roles for some time."
And while the director would have been happier with his stars taking a back seat when it came to the stunts he admits that it was a thrill to work with them both.
"Directing them was one of the great thrills in my career - they're both great actors and great quality people, a joy to be with and a joy to work with. I couldn't think of two better souls to make a movie with."
Knight & day is the first movie since 3.10 To Yuma, which starred Christian Bale and Russell Crowe, back in 2007.
Knight & Day is released 6th August.
