James Franco's studies have cost him a Broadway debut opposite Nicole Kidman.
The workaholic actor, who is currently studying at Yale University, has been forced to drop out of Tennessee Williams' play Sweet Bird of Youth.
Kidman is still on board for the play about an ageing actress and the gigolo paramour who uses her as he tries to help her get back into the movies.
2011 has already been a super successful year for the actor having picked up a Best actor Oscar nomination for 127 Hours.
This summer he switched drama for blockbuster with The Rise of the Planet of the Apes - which was a big critical and commerical success.
He has already completed work on Sal, Maladies and Cherry and is currently filming Oz: The Great and Powerful - which also stars Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz and Michelle Williams.
