James Franco has come out in defence of his new movie 127 Hours saying that it is not a horror movie.
The actor recognised that a couple of people have fainted at screenings of the movie but he admits that the amputation scene was never filmed to intentionally horrify people.
Speaking to MSN Movies the actor said: "We made this film in a particular way, it's not a horror movie like The Exorcist or Saw where the point is to gross people out, but we felt we needed to respect Aron's story."
He went on: "When Aron amputated his own arm it took over 40 minutes, our scene is a few minutes. If we cut it back any more to make it more palatable it would have short-changed Aron's story."
Franco takes on the role of Rolston in Danny Boyle's new movie, a movie and a central performance that is already surrounded in Oscar whispers.
The movie closed the London Film Festival last night and it has enjoyed a lot of success on the festival circuit.
127 Hours is just one of the biopic type roles he has taken on this year after starring as Allen Ginsberg in Howl.
127 Hours is released 7th January.
