James Franco has called his new movie 127 Hours 'cutting edge' and believes that is why people may not go to see it.
Franco, who is set to host the Academy Awards, picked up an Oscar nomination for his central role as Aron Ralston in the movie but thinks that audiences would rather watch more 'classically structured' films such as The Social Network.
Speaking to MovieOnline the actor said: "I know I'm biased, I think [127 Hours is] the most innovative movie this year.
"The Social Network is about new technology and how people are communicating now? Or it's supposed to be? They don’t deal with any of that! It's a very classically structured movie and classically made movie.
"127 Hours is about a guy - one single character in a single place. That is like the cutting edge of movie making, short of doing it in 3D or something."
127 Hours picked up six Oscar nods when the nominations were announced on Monday - including Best actor for Franco and Best Picture, but Danny Boyle missed out on a Best Director nod.
The Social Network picked up eight nominations including Best Picture, Best Actor for Jesse Eisenberg and Best Director for David Fincher.
2011 looks set to be a busy year for Franco as he has Your Highness and Rise of the Apes due for release this year. He is currently working on Maladies and has The Broken Tower and The Iceman in the pipeline.
