James Cameron has admitted that there is some Avatar footage that will never be seen.
Avatar broke box office records when it was released last year, taking $2.7 billion worldwide, and is being re-released this week with an added nine minutes of footage.
But Cameron admits that some of the footage will stay on the cutting room floor.
Speaking to MTV the filmmaker said: "There are things you will never see. But there's a whole lot of stuff that will definitely satisfy the appetite of even the most hard-core fan in a big box-set DVD that we're actually preparing right now."
And the Oscar winner has revealed that he and his team are already working on the extended version on the DVD and Blu-Ray: "It's all happening at the same time, because the deadline for mass-producing stuff for the Christmas marketplace is pretty much now anyway.
"The re-release that we're doing now with the nine additional minutes is carefully architected for the theatrical experience.
"But we have more extended-play versions of the film or an extended version of the film that will be available in the Blu-ray, and there will be a whole bunch of supplemental stuff with about 45 minutes of deleted material."
Cameron has revealed that he is already planning a sequel that may explore the waters of Pandora, but he may take on another project before filming on Avatar 2 gets underway.
