James Cameron has revealed that he is relieved to finally see avatar release on the big screen.
After almost twenty year in the making the movie is set to be one of the biggest films of 2009 and sees Cameron return to the director’s chair.
He told the UK press conference: "[I'm] so relieved. We can hold our heads high. We got the picture done on time by the skin of our teeth.
“It's been a four and a half year process. We're pulling the cover back to show the world.
"It's a huge relief to let people see it and stop talking about it. There's a huge buzz about this thing so now we can put the rumours to bed and actually deal with the movie itself."
In the future, Jake, a paraplegic war veteran, is brought to another planet, Pandora, which is inhabited by the Na'vi, a humanoid race with their own language and culture.
Those from Earth find themselves at odds with each other and the local culture.
The director also went on to reveal that he has two storyline in the pipeline for future movies: "When I pitched it to Fox, they said, 'We've spent a lot of money creating all these assets, all these CG mountains, plants, trees, leaves, flowers, bugs'.
“Everything you saw up there on screen had been made by people at workstations over a period of years and so they have value.
"So in terms of the pitch it was, 'Okay, you've spent a lot of money on the first one, on the second one we'll be able to amortise it and focus on the story and all that...' and they bought that."
Avatar is released 17th December.
