James Cameron has hit at Sam Worthington's critics.
The Australian actor shot to fame in Cameron's record breaking movie Avatar at the end of last year and has gone to have success at the box office in 2010 with Clash of the Titans.
And while the actor is in high demand with roles in The Debt, Last Night and The Fields he has come under fire from some of the critics, but Cameron has leapt to his defence.
Speaking to ShortList the filmmaker said: "If you think about actors who can do the tough-guy thing, whether it's Russell Crowe or Hugh Jackman, he's certainly in that league, and I think he's got a capacity to evoke emotion that some of the lesser tough-guy actors couldn't even think about getting close to.
"Sam's amazing. He's got great range and vulnerability. Wooden is absurd. Just as absurd characterisation."
James Cameron has revealed that he is already planning the sequel to Avatar, which was re-released in cinemas last week with nine extra minutes of footage.
The director, who narrowly missed on Best Director and Best Picture for the film, has hinted that he wants to explore the waters of Pandora in the sequel.
