Duncan Jones made sure Jake Gyllenhaal was as disoriented as the character he was playing in new action film Source Code by pumping bizarre pieces of music into his ear.
The movie star plays an army veteran who is transported into a random train passenger's body in a bid to thwart a bomb plot - and his character spends much of the new film trying to make sense of his surroundings.
And to make sure his leading man looked confused, Jones - David Bowie's director son - asked Gyllenhaal to wear an ear-piece and listen to the music he played him during scenes.
The actor explains, "He asked me to have an earwig in my ear - one of those things where people can talk to you or you can hear music and stuff.
"He would play random pieces of music, and he would play, like, the Iranian Boys' Choir, or he would play, like, Send in the Clowns.
"(I look confused) because he's (Jones) playing Sade's Smooth Operator in my ear."
Source Code is the first movie for Jones since he burst onto the scene with his debut Moon.
Source Code is released 1st April.
