Jack Black is desperate to star in the new Ghostbusters sequel and lobbied original star Harold Ramis when the pair worked together on new movie Year One.
After directing Black in the neanderthal comedy, Ramis is preparing to reprise his role as Dr. Egon Spengler in the third Ghostbusters film.
The veteran is also on the shortlist to direct the sequel, and Black admits he used his time with Ramis to campaign for the chance to hunt ghouls with him.
Black tells Moviefone, "Could I see myself in it? Yeah, I can bust some ghosts! I ain't (sic) afraid of no ghosts! Buster."
Ghostbusters III will star the original line-up of Ramis, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson, as well as a new batch of younger spook chasers.
Last month Dan Aykroyd revealed that it is a female ghosthunter that will lead the Ghostbusters team in the new movie.
The actor went on to hint at elements of the plot saying that the new team will be "learning how to use the neuron splitter and the inter-planet interceptor - new tools to enable them to slip from dimension to dimension".
Black is currently working on a live action version of Gulliver's travels alongside British star Emily Blunt that she be released next year.
