JJ Abrams says that Benedict Cumberbatch 'elevated everything' during his time working on Star Trek Into Darkness.
Cumberbatch is one of the new faces on the cast list and is set to take on the role of John Harrison in the film and Abrams says the actor brought something special to every scene.
Speaking to Digital Spy the director: "Being on the set with him... I think everyone was bringing their absolute A-game. I think, frankly, in a way, [his] presence sort of elevated everything.
"Time and again, every scene, Benedict brought a surprising, unexpected, grounded, real and often terrifying aspect to the role. So we are incredibly grateful, all of us."
Star Trek Into Darkness is the first movie since the series was rebooted by the director back in 2009.
Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg and Zoe Saldana are all back and reprising roles from the first film.
As for Cumberbatch the role of Harrison does not exist in the original series and there are still some rumours floating around that this is a red herring.
Star Trek Into Darkness is released 17th May 2013.
