Sir Ian McKellen may quit The Hobbit if he does not discover when the project will get underway.
McKellen was set to reprise the role of Gandalf in the movie and is currently the production's only known cast member but with Guillermo Del Toro pulling out as director last month the project is up in the air.
He told Good Morning: "Well I'm not under contract and my time is running out and I'm enjoying working in the theatre and frankly, I would like to race after doing Waiting For Godot, get on with doing another play but we'll have to see.
"I don't give the producers the impression that I'm sitting waiting."
Peter Jackson has reportedly been in talks with Warner Bros the MGM to take over as director, he was due to serve as executive producer and has also penned the script.
But MGM's current financial issues has also thrown the project into disarray and Bond 23 has already been put on hold because of this issue.
McKellen however claimed that there would be an announcement surrounding the movie made very soon saying: "What it will be, I genuinely don't know - it'll either be that we're going ahead or that we're not."
