Back To The Future & Dances With Wolves Preserved In Library Of Congress....
Members of America's National Film Registry have selected movies like Humphrey Bogart's In A Lonely Place, Michael J. Fox's Back To The Future and Kevin Costner's Dances With Wolves for inclusion in the Library of Congress.Every year, the organisation chooses 25 classic American films which are deemed to be "culturally, historically or aesthetically" significant for preservation in the U.S. Library of Congress. Movies both new and old are eligible for consideration, and titles are nominated by the public on an annual basis.Among the films selected this year (07) include 1955 cowboy musical Oklahoma!, 1948 crime drama The Naked City, 1977 sci-fi movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and 1939's Wuthering Heights. In a statement issued with the final nominations on Thursday (27Dec07), Librarian of Congress James H. Billington says, "Even as Americans fill the movie theaters to see the latest releases, few are aware that up to half the films produced in this country before 1950 - and as much as 90 per cent of those made before 1920 - are lost forever."The National Film Registry seeks not only to honour these films, but to ensure that they are preserved for future generations to enjoy.".
