Hugo Weaving

Hugo Weaving says that the multiple strands and characters in Cloud Atlas make it a difficult movie to watch.

The adaptation of the David Mitchell novel is one of the most highly anticipated movies of early 2013 as Weaving teams up with Tom Hanks, Halle Berry and Hugh Grant in an all star ensemble cast.

The movie jumps between different time periods and sees the actors take on more that one role.

Speaking to Vulture magazine the actor said: "It also makes it a hard movie to accept and to watch, because it's out of their experience and therefore it's wrong.

"So I suspect that will be the main problem for some people - because it's unusual, it's like, 'Ehhh that didn't work for me because I've never seen it before and I wanted it to be like this. Why couldn't they do that?'

"But what I think is great about it is that it's actually quite revolutionary in its structure. It's quite playful yet it's a very serious film. It manages to incorporate all these elements amazingly well, but I think for some people it will be too much."

Andy and Lana Wachowski and Tom Tykwer are in the director's chair for the movie and have also penned the screenplay.

But before we see Weaving in Cloud Atlas he will be reprising the role of Elrond in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

Cloud Atlas is released 22nd March 2013
