Hugh Jackman

Hugh Jackman has revealed that he almost didn't follow his acting dreams because of the 'poof' jibes from his brother.

The actor admits that he was interested in acting and musical theatre from a very early age and while his father was very supportive he was teased by his sibling.

Speaking to Xtra.ca the actor said: "I would love to say I was Billy Elliot, but I wasn't. My dad was like, 'Terrific,' but my brother was like, 'Ah, you poof!'

"I was only about 10 or 11, but I remember thinking that this is not a good thing."

However his brother had a change o heart after seeing a production of 42nd Street and it was this support that encouraged Jackman to join a theatre company.

"My brother came up to me and said, 'Man, I want to apologise. I'm such an idiot... you should be up there doing that.'

"It was really a kind of sweet thing for him to say. I joined up the next day."

We haven't seen Jackman on the big screen since X-Men Origins: Wolverine back in 2009 - however he did cameo in X-Men: First Class earlier this summer.

But the actor has plenty of projects in the pipeline with Snow Flower and the Secret Fan and Real Steel due for release this year.
