Hugh Jackman played tribute to his wife in his acceptance speech for talking him out of leaving the movie after a bad day of rehearsals.
The actor picked up the Best Actor - Musical/Comedy for his performance in Les Miserables as Jean Valjean.
But he revealed as he picked up the gong that he came close to walking away from the project - only to have his wife Deborra-Lee Furness change his mind.
"It's time. I have to ring (the director), tell him someone else should play the role. I've bitten off more than I can chew.'
"My wife talked me off the cliff like she talks me (down) most days. Baby, I will say it in front of the entire world - thank you for always being right, baby. I love you."
It was a good night for Les Miserables as the movie won Best Film - Musical/Comedy while Anne Hathaway picked up the Best Supporting Actress award for her performance as Fantine.
Jackman saw off competition from BRadley Cooper, Bill Murray, Ewan McGregor and Jack Black.
