Hugh Jackman has revealed that he auditioned hard to Les Miserables because it was a movie project that he really wanted to be involved in.
The actor is set to take on the role of Jean Valjean as Tom Hooper, director of The King's Speech, brings the hit musical to the big screen.
Jackman is well known for his theatre work and he admits that he has been looking for a project that brought film and musical theatre together.
Speaking to New York Magazine the actor said: "More motivated. I auditioned. I went hard for the part. I wasn't sitting back waiting for this one. This is one I really wanted.
"I feel, weirdly, that all the things in my life - particularly my professional life, which has been close to 20 years - have been converging to this point.
"I feel very lucky and blessed to have been in movies, and I feel lucky and blessed to have been in musicals.
"I've been waiting a long time to combine the two, and to be able to do it with something like Les Miserables, it just feels like a pinnacle."
And Les Mis is not the only project that Jackman has in the pipeline as he is also set to reprise the role of Logan in The Wolverine.
