Hugh Jackman is a Broadway record breaker - his new musical show has smashed one-week grosses at the Broadhurst Theatre.

Ticket sales for Back on Broadway raked in over $1.2 million (£750,000) last week (ends30Oct11), beating previous records set by Billy Crystal's 700 Sundays, Jude Law's Hamlet and The Merchant of Venice, starring Al Pacino.

Tony Award-winner Jackman officially returns to the New York stage for a 10-week engagement on 10 November (11).

In the show, the movie star performs a personal selection of his favorite musical numbers accompanied by an 18-piece orchestra.

It seems that Jackman can do no wrong at the moment with is last film Real Steel being both a critical and commerical success.

And there are plenty of movies in the pipeline for the actor with Butter and Movie 43 already in the can.

He is set to reprise the role of Wolverline in The Wolverine, which will be directed by James Mangold, and he will lead the cast in Tom Hooper's Les Miserables.
