Hugh Grant

Hugh Grant has revealed that he almost quitted acting before landing the role in Four Weddings and A Funeral.

Grant told The Mirror that he was tired of being rejected at auditions saying: "I remember going to the audition and saying 'This is the last one I go to'."

But he landed the role of Charles in Richard Curtis' Four Weddings and A Funeral, the role that launched his career. It was an unexpected success grossing in excess of $244 million at the global box office.

He became an international star overnight landing a Golden Globe award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy as well as a Bafta for his performance.

Roles in Nine Months and Sense and Sensibility followed, both did well at the box office. But it's his collaborations with Curtis that have brought the actor the most success.

He would go on to star in Notting Hill, Bridget Jones's Diary and Love Actually that cemented him as an actor with satirical comic talent.

He was last on the big screen in Music and Lyrics, which saw him team up with Drew Barrymore.
