A major strike that could have brought Hollywood to a near standstill in August has been averted - teamster driver union bosses have agreed to accept a new deal from the studios.
Union leaders met in Burbank, California on Sunday morning (25Jul10) to decide whether or not to authorise a strike beginning on 1 August (10).
The teamsters - drivers and crewmembers who deliver equipment on location - are unhappy about studio salaries and a proposed new deal.
But union bosses overwhelmingly ratified a new two-year deal, which means there will be no work stoppage, as feared, next weekend (01Aug10) onwards.
The new deal covers more than 3,000 drivers and crewmembers and comes two days after talks between union bosses and studio representatives fell flat.
