Helena Bonham Carter has revealed that she made Harry Potter character Bellatrix more ‘insane’ and ‘unhinged’.
The actress has reprised the role for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, which was released last week, as the Potter series begins to draw to a close.
The movie has already grossed over $330 million at the global box office over the weekend and the second instalment will be released next summer.
But the British actress reveals that she had a huge input into the development of the character.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly the actress said: "I loved it. I love magic, I love witches, I love the whole [Harry Potter] world. I was all too happy to play a witch."
"There wasn't a huge amount on the page originally. I think I probably made her a bit more insane and unhinged than she was meant to be.
“I wanted to be conspicuous. So the [rotten] teeth was my idea, because she had been in prison so long.
"I wanted her to be quite savage. And I wanted that corset. It was sort of an Amazon thing. Bellatrix means 'a warrior'.
“I wanted her to be sexy and revolting at the same time. At one point she might have been attractive, but no longer."
And it’s been a busy year for Bonham Carter as she completed work on The King’s Speech, which will be released in the new year.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is out now.
