Helena Bonham Carter

Helena Bonham Carter has admitted that she felt a great sense of responsibility when she took on the role of Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, in The King's Speech.

The actress stars alongside Colin Firth in the Tom Hooper directed movie which follows King George VI as he overcome a stammer.

Speaking to ComingSoon the actress said: Yeah, it's hard. You have a responsibility.

"Also to everybody else, because there's so many people who know her and have a perception of her, so you're sort of treading on semi-sacred ground, but having said that, everyone tends to remember the Queen Mother in her latter years.

"It never occurs to them that the Queen Mother had a youth."

The British actress has already enjoyed big box office success this year as she starred in Alice In Wonderland at the beginning of the year.

The movie, which also starred Johnny Depp and Anne Hathaway, grossed in excess of $1 billion at the global box office to join a very exclusive club.

And further success has followed this weekend as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1, which sees her reprise the role of Bellatrix Lestrange, topped the U.S. box office taking over $125 million.

The King's Speech is released 7th January.
