Heath Ledger

Terry Gilliam has revealed that the death of Heath Ledger last year 'sealed the fate' of their new movie The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.

Ledger passed away during the filming of the film and Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell and Jude Law all stepped in to complete the movie.

Gilliam, who worked with Ledger on The Brothers Grimm, said that he felt a sense of duty to complete the movie for the late actor.

Gilliam told the Associated Press: "The closing credit says 'By Heath and Friends' because the film changed with his death.

"He forced me to make changes and we wouldn't have finished it if it wasn't for Heath. Everybody was just energised by Heath.

"He was extraordinary. He was almost exhausting because he had so much energy."

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus is a fantastical morality tale, set in the present day. It tells the story of Dr Parnassus and his extraordinary 'Imaginarium', a travelling show where members of the audience get an irresistible opportunity to choose between light and joy or darkness and gloom.

The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival last week and will be released later this year.
