Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows has dominated the UK box office this weekend as it took over £18.3 million.
The first instalment of the final story in the Potter saga secured the biggest three day opening total with that impressive gross, beating the record that was held by Quantum of Solace by £3 million.
As Harry races against time and evil to destroy the Horcruxes, he uncovers the existence of three most powerful objects in the wizarding world: the Deathly Hallows.
The movie sees Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint reprise their roles of Harry, Hermione and Ron and they will be back in the summer of 2011 as the series draws to a close.
Due Date fell just a single place to number two but was a long way behind Deathly Hallows as it took £1.2 million.
Despicable Me held onto the number three spot while sci-fi movie Skyline dropped two places from two to four.
Jackass 3D rounded off the top five by dropping just one place from last week’s four. Red remained at six while animation movie Alpha and Omega jumped up two points to number seven.
The only other new entry inside the top ten this week came in the form of Guzaarish, which sees Aishwarya Rai back on the big screen.
The Social Network was down two to number nine and Mike Leigh’s latest film Another Year stayed at number ten.
