Halle Berry has revealed that she is relieved that her new movie Frankie & Alice has made it onto the big screen.
The actress takes on the role of Frankie a woman with a dissociative identity disorder and struggles to retain her true self and not give in to her racist alter-personality.
And while the movie is now surrounded in Oscar buzz there was a time when Berry believed that the film was going to end up on the shelf.
Speaking on the red carpet at this year's AFI Fest in Hollywood she said: "Honestly, it's been a long time coming for me.
"I thought it was just going to end up on a shelf and now this year, surprisingly, we got a distributor and here it comes.
"You know, buzz is nice but I'm just happy this movie is coming out - that's the award for me right now," she insisted.
And Berry revealed that she was intrigued by the central character and that is what drew her to the project.
"It fascinated me when an actor friend told me about it.
"I thought 'wow, a black woman who has an alter that's a white somewhat racist woman' - just that line alone was intriguing to me and I wanted to understand how something like that could happen, so that's where it started," she revealed."
