Gwyneth Paltrow has revealed that it was Robert Downey Jr who helped her relate and understand her Country Strong character.
The actress is back on the big screen in the new year with Country Strong which sees her take on the role of singer Kelly Canter, a recovering addict.
And the actress reveals that she struggled to understand addiction until asking for help from Iron Man co-star Downey Jr.
Speaking to the Los Angeles Times the actress said: "It was actually really challenging ... I didn't understand how you could do something so crazy one night and wreck lives in your wake, then wake up and expect to be back to normal.
"I actually e-mailed [Robert], who has been sober for a long time. He wrote me the most amazing e-mail and helped me understand it."
Directed by Shana Feste the movie Country Strong brings together a great cast of Paltrow, Garrett Hedlund, Leighton Meester and Tim McGraw.
Paltrow has already enjoyed huge box office success this year with Iron Man 2 which was a hit back in the summer.
The actress is currently filming Contagion with Matt Damon, Kate Winslet, Marion Cotillard and Jude Law.
Country Strong is released 4th March.
