Guillermo del Toro has revealed that he is 'very close' to unveiling his cast for the highly anticipated The Hobbit.
The filmmaker had admitted earlier this year that his choice for lead character Bilbo Baggins has been reduced to just four actors but it seems that he is almost ready to announce who had landed the lead role.
He told MTV: "I believe we’re very close now to saying one name." A cast announcement could only be a couple of weeks away.
After the success of The Lord of the Rings trilogy it seemed inevitable that The Hobbit would eventually make it to the big screen, but disagreements between Peter Jackson and New Line Cinema have delayed the project.
And although Peter Jackson will not be returning to the role as director he will take on a producing role.
Andy Serkis is set to return to the role of Gollum and Sir Ian mcKellen will reprise the role of Gandalf in the story that will be split into two parts.
There has been speculation that some members of The Lord of the Rings cast, such as Aragon and Legolas, would appear in the new movies despite not being in the book.
