Guillermo Del Toro has revealed that he dreams of making a 'Gothic Western' version of the classic novel The Count of Monte Cristo.
In an interview with MTV the director said: "It's a Gothic-Western retelling of The Count Of Monte Cristo, and I co-wrote it with Kitt Carson and Matthew Robbins around 1993 to 1998."
"I wrote a lot of that during the kidnapping of my father, so [there's] a lot of rage. I adore that screenplay."
Del Toro has found major success in recent years with his Hellboy franchise, which has spawned two movies, and Pan's Labyrinth.
However his dream to work on Alexandre Dumas's The Count of Monte Cristo will have to wait as the Mexican filmmaker will be busy working on the adaptation of The Hobbit.
Following up The Lord of the Rings the adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's novel will be split into two movies. He is also set to act as producer on Pinocchio.
Other projects in the pipeline for Del Toro include Frankenstein, Dr Jekyll and Mr.Hyde and a remake of slaughterhouse Five.
