Ryan Reynolds has called his new movie Green Lantern a 'brilliant piece of art'.
The funnyman will be back on the big screen next year as he takes on the blockbuster role and he is keen to his movie match some of his favourite superhero films.
Speaking to NJ.com the actor said: "If a superhero movie is done right, you can craft an incredible film. There have been superhero films that I think are brilliant pieces of art.
"I love 'Iron Man', I love 'Batman'. But also you have to remember it's escapist moviemaking - we want to be captivated and taken away."
And Reynolds admits that it was the character of Hal Jordan/ Green Lantern that really drew him to the blockbuster project.
"The character is a classic action hero, and there's an arc. Here's a guy who begins the journey very cocky and arrogant.
"When he's bestowed this supernatural gift, he is humbled by it. I like that trajectory. Usually, it's the opposite way."
Reynolds changed his pace last week as he starred in Buried, a performance that has been winning over the critics in recent weeks, in which he is the only actor seen on screen.
But it seems that the blockbuster movie is something that he will be concentrating on as he is set to reprise the role of Deadpool in a spin off movie.
