Gore Verbinski has revealed that The Lone Ranger will be told through the eyes of Tonto.
The filmmaker is set to re-unite with his Pirates of the Caribbean leading man Johnny Depp for the project, in which he will take on the role of Tonto.
And Verbinski admits that he was keen to tell the well known story from a different angle.
Speaking to the Los Angeles Times the actor said: "The only version of The Lone Ranger I'm interested in doing is Don Quixote told from Sancho Panza's point of view.
"And hence I was honest early on with Johnny that Tonto is the part. We're not going to do it [straight], everyone knows that story. I don't want to tell that story."
"I want the version from the untrustworthy narrator who might be a little crazy - but somehow the question is, is he crazy or is the world crazy?
"That, I find fascinating."
Verbinski and Depp have already made another movie together in the form of animation pic Rango, which is due out in March.
