The Golden Globe awards ceremony could be facing a boycott from Hollywood's writers, who are still on strike over a dispute about pay.The writers, who began their strike on 5 November, have insisted that they will picket the high profile ceremony.Organises had hoped that their last minute talks with the Writers Guild of America (WGA) would allow the show to go ahead. But the WGA still claim that they will picket the event. The WGA began their mass walkout over a disagreement over royalties made from DVD and online sales of their work. The strike has caused chaos, particularly for television, with many of America's top shows including Ugly Betty and Heroes to be taken off the air due to a lack of completed episodes. The Golden Globe organisers the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has been trying to reach an agreement with the writers to allow them to work on the show.An similar agreement made this week has meant that both Jay Leno and David Letterman's talk shows have returned to the television schedule.Leno's The Tonight Show, which is aired on NBC, returned without a team of writers whilst Letterman's Late Show has made a deal with it's writers meaning that they will be paid when their work is distributed online.
It has been suggested that the cameras be kept away from the Golden Globes next weekend to lessen and potential embarrassment from a non scripted show.
However this would be a major blow as twenty million people tuned in to watch the ceremony twelve months ago when it was aired on NBC.
The Golden Globes cermenoy is due to take place on Sunday 13 January.
