Kate Winslet is up for two nominations

The nominations for the 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards have just been announced.

Leading the way with six nominations is silent film The Artist.

The film is up for best Musical and Comedy but isn’t released until December 30.

It is up against 50/50, Bridesmaids, Midnight in Paris and My Week with Marilyn to win the gong.

British actress Kate Winslet has scored herself two nominations for her role in successful TV show Mildred Pierce and for film, Carnage.

Fellow British actors Tilda Swinton and Kenneth Branagh have also been nominated.

Hollywood actors Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Leonardo DiCaprio and Ryan Gosling are all competing for the Best Actor award.

The cult period drama Downton Abbey has also been nominated in four categories.

In the director’s category Martin Scorsese, Michel Hazanavicius, Woody Allen and Alexander Payne are battling to win the prestigious Best Director award.

The winners of the awards will be revealed on January 15 when the ceremony takes place.

Ricky Gervais will be making a comeback to present the awards having caused controversy in previous years when he presented in 2010 and 2011
